Faye Bennet is lifetime pioneer, sponsor, and coach of sailing on Long Beach Island, on Barnegat Bay, and around the world, focused on youth and women’s sailing. 2002 recipient of the Nathaniel G. Herreshoff Trophy for outstanding contributions to the sport of sailing; founded the Spray Beach Yacht Club junior sailing program in 1950; instrumental founder of the Long Beach Island Yacht Racing Assoc. in 1983. First certified female judge for US Sailing; first woman to compete in the US Men’s Sailing Championship, chair of US Junior Champion Committee and served on the US Sailing Board of Directors. President, North Jersey Yacht Racing Assoc., Commodore of LBIYRA, 1987, SBYC Flag Officer, 2006-2008; Chair, US Sailing Sears/Bemis/Smythe and Adams Committees; Trustee, US Sailing Foundation; advocate for Opti-based junior racing for all clubs on LBI; U.S. Moth Class President and International Secretary.
