Scott

Young

1959 -

Scott Young is a winning amateur sailor. He has competed and won for over 45 years in a wide range of one-design classes at all types of venues (coastal and lake).

From Scott’s nominators:

Scott’s passion for competitive sailing started in the early 1970s and actively continues today. He has shown that inland lake sailors can be internationally competitive at all levels. He has done all of this while maintaining an amateur status in the sport – never getting paid to sail or paid within the sailing industry.

Scott won the Mallory Cup six times, four times as helmsman and twice as a crew. In addition to his racing record, Scott was instrumental in helping to support the University of Texas Sailing Team and helped orchestrate the purchase of 3 different fleets of boats for the UT Sailing Team and the Austin Yacht Club over the last 30 years. He also was a significant founding contributor and fund raiser for the Austin Yacht Club Fund which has supported youth and adult racing programs and Olympic aspirants throughout Texas.
